Value
Very reasonable. Plenty of food for little money. GpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeGpawRating-Whole
Atmosphere
Utilitarian. Metal and wood chairs and tables give a feeling of coldness. Very plain décor. It’s cheap, fast, good food that caters to the University crowd. GpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeFadeGpawRating-WholeFadeGpawRating-WholeFade
Service
Some wait staff speak better English than others. You write your order down by number, so some confusion can arise when the food arrives, especially if it’s your first visit or first time eating Vietnamese. Food is served quickly, though. Review
Pho Xic-Lo Vietnamese Noodle House at 1750 Wyandotte Street West played host to our second Growl on June 20, 2012.

Pho Xic-Lo, or Vietnamese Noodle House as it is also known, is one of my favourite restaurants in Windsor. I simply love Vietnamese food, and it was a privilege to introduce my fellow Growlers to this restaurant, many of whom had never experienced Vietnamese food before.

Perusing the menu, which thankfully had accompanying colourful pictures of the various dishes up for offer, fellow Growlers wanted to know: what was best to order?

I had to confess, I only ever order the one dish. It’s my all-time favourite combination of Vietnamese delicacies: served in a bowl, on a bed of steamed rice vermicelli, nestles the following – spring roll, grilled pork, minced shrimp on sugar cane, and spiced pork. Accompanied by a refreshingly minty salad of Chinese cabbage and shredded carrots and cucumbers, it’s enough food for two people, but I confess again, I can eat it all in one sitting, it is that growlicious!

I like to pair this meal with a jack fruit shake. Now, that might not sound appetizing, but let me assure you, it is sweet, creamy goodness in a glass. Just don’t ask me what a jack fruit is, ’cause that I couldn’t tell you. I just know it’s yummy in a shake.

vegetablerollsAround the table we had a sampling of Pho, a Vietnamese soup the restaurant is famous for, that is served with tasty pieces of beef and rice vermicelli in a flavourful broth; a platter of the freshest vegetables, steamed rice noodles, and a selection of meats with rice paper for a “roll your own” experience that had one Growlita oohing and aahing over the freshness of the food; and grilled salmon that had another Growlita’s mouth watering for more.

The extremely reasonable value of the meal, along with its tastiness and freshness, had many a Growler ordering takeout baggies for loved ones stuck at home, feeling guilty no doubt that they were enjoying such a delicious meal at their families’ expense.

Lisa M.‘s Overall Rating
Dinner was a hit with all. The quality of the food more than made up for the bare bones atmosphere. Pho Xic-Lo rates a return visit! GpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeGpawRating-WholeFade

Sylvia V. said: “Amazing food. I had #72 Bahn Hoi – Roll Your Own Spring Rolls with rice paper, cucumber, mint leaves, bean sprouts, vermicelli noodles, peanuts, grilled pork, spiced pork, minced shrimp ball, shredded carrots, fish sauce, and peanut sauce. Sooooo refreshing on the hottest day of the year! Also fresh squeezed lime juice with soda (crying out for a splash of flavoured vodka…). Everything about my meal was exciting and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Colour me lucky!”

I’ve been back to this establishment and the food was just as fresh and flavourful as my first visit. Definitely a growl experience I recommend to others. Great review!

I have been back several times and am equally delighted each time I go. In defense of the atmosphere, there is an intriguing mural on the back wall that looks authentic. It is also a very spacious place with generous room around the tables. Where it loses ambiance is in the bright lighting, feels like a cafeteria. But easily overlooked once you see the food and its presentation.

I’ve been back to the restaurant a couple of times since our Growl, and have liked it just as much as I did the first time. The food is so fresh and tasty! Definitely a spot I will continue to revisit in the future.

This restaurant is on the top of my list when I want a quick bite before a movie or a night out with my hubby. The service is prompt and the food has always been fresh and delicious.
