We enjoyed these experiences so much that we decided to share them with our community by way of this blog, spearheaded by Laurel R. with contributions from everyone.
There have been many informal gatherings in and around Windsor restaurants and we have written about those, too. We welcome you to check out our reviews and add your comments any time!
Here’s what the Growlitas had to say about this milestone:
I am thrilled by all the restaurants we have tried and excited about all the ones we haven’t been to yet. It’s really fun getting to know the Pawsonalities and the City of Roses, trying new things and trying my hand at writing about them.
Things that stand out for me most?
A year of Growling! Time and his wings and all that. Probably the coolest thing about the Growl Project is the fact that it has renewed my affection for my city. I was born in Windsor and have lived in Windsor-Essex all my life, and I must admit that over time I grew quite disenchanted with all of it. In comparison to the very few other cities through which I’ve had the opportunity to wander, Windsor felt dull and colourless. Windsor Girls Growl was a new lens through which to see my city, and wouldn’t you know that it is imbued with bright spots. Sometimes it even sparkles.
My hit list:
- Eating with my fingers at World Marathon restaurant.
- The Grecian grotto interior of Thanasi’s. My kingdom for a water feature in my library or living room!
- Best veggie burger EVER at Motorburger.
Goals for the next year:
- Improve my attendance record.
- Work on further developing and promoting awareness of the blog.
My most memorable moments surround friends and the unique ties that we have developed. I look back fondly on the piñata sitting at the table at Sweet T’s, and the birth of Growla. I still laugh out loud when I think about Eileen in the tree securing the piñata and each of us taking a whack with a snow brush, under the harsh beam of flashlights. I think my most favourite growl memory is Hoi Sushi, for me that really cemented our bond and commitment to each other as a group – who knew sushi had that power?! LOL.
I agree with both Kim S. and Lisa L. I would have never guessed something like this would work in Windsor, and it took someone new to Windsor, Sylvia V. to launch it. We are a great group of ladies and I’ve so enjoyed getting to know each one. I loved Palenque, Hoi Sushi, the Vietnamese Noodle place and the opportunity to contribute to the blog.
I have attended half of the Growls and those were fab! I really enjoy getting to know the fellow Growlers and of course experiencing all the wonderful food. We’ve had a great time over the last year, and the future looks bright – or should I say appetizing and fun. My goal for our next year is to attend as many Growls as possible.
Being a part of Windsor Girls Growl has been an amazing way for me to get a taste of all the yummy food that’s on offer in my new city… and spending time with such a lovely group of women was the icing on the cake. (Or maybe it was even the cake!) Fond memories for me include quoting from “When Harry Met Sally” (peeeecaaaannn piiiiiieeee) at Sweet T’s, the amazingly delicious puffy fresh-from-the-oven pita at Mazaar, and, even though it wasn’t an “official” Growl, Justin the waiter at Smoke & Spice. I love working on our blog and getting to know all the many and varied talents present among our group’s members, and am looking forward to another year of opportunities for everyone to sparkle and shine!
It’s been a year of wonderful places, new foods to try and mostly just sharing a great meal with a bunch of great ladies. Each time we get together I enjoy getting to know a little more about each of you. I love the blog and contributing to it. Hoi Sushi is my favourite so far, it was a night of chaos but with such great energy and lots of laughs – I think I have a few more laugh lines to prove it!
Oh it’s great to see all of the places we Growled! Fun memories – I can’t wait to make more.
Oh if I were filthy rich and could growl with the ladies every day instead of once a month, I would be very happy indeed. I can’t believe it’s been a year already and we’ve only scratched the surface of eateries in this city we call home. My fondest memories of the past year are of course the wonderful group of women – beloved friends all – I’ve shared food with, the laughter that brought me to tears, the peeeeecaaaannnnn piiiiiieeeeee at Sweet T’s, second only to my mom’s, and learning that when you eat sushi with this ravenous group, take your share first before passing the plate! Politeness is for wimps! (or those who like to go hungry). LOL
Here’s to the next year of growling!
